Hello,

I have a 1985 pickup, and just got a set of pro comp 15x7 wheels and they touch the caliper (just a little bit). The guy at 4 wheel parts told me that they would fit. I did the 86 caliper/fj rotor swap and never thought wheel fitment would be any different. Are the calipers that I put on the reason, or are the wheels the wrong size? As I said it seems to rub very slightly and I am almost thinking about grinding the caliper down some to clear the wheels. Any ideas? (Also the wheels I have on now clear, but they are not stock they are 15x10)

grind it down, replace it with stock, get a bigger rim? those are basicly ur options, the fj rotors were made for 16" rims i believe so the 15" rims are to small

They hit the face of the caliper, it doesnt have anything to do with the 15 vs 16...

Anyone have any more ideas? Or if the 86 calipers are indeed the reason that they are hitting the wheel? I need to find out ASAP so I can either grind them or get the right wheels (maybe 15x8)

You could always run a small spacer, but you may need longer wheel studs.

I was thinking that, i found a thread that was talking about pep boys having 1/4" spacers. Would the stock lugs still work with 1/4 spacers?

Grind them and be done with it.

I have an 85 4Runner and an 85 ext cab and both have the big IFS calipers and both needed slight grinding to clear.

My wheels on both are 15x8 with 3.75 BS.

If you decide on wheel spacers get something that has wheel studs in them, not the big washer type like the 1/4 ones you mention.

We have wheel spacers should you go that route or anything else for that matter for an 85.

Like previously mentioned, your BS seems to be the issue. Nonetheless, grind down the face of the caliper if you don't wanna spend more money or get some studded spacers. Those two options will solve your problems.

just go to carquest and get some wheel spacers. 3/16ths or 1/4 inch

85 & earlier trucks and up to 89 FJ40/60/62 are critical for wheel backspace.

My cruiser needs 3 1/2". When I did the big caliper swap, I had to grind down the fins on the caliper a little.

If your procomp wheels have the "D" shaped holes, they are known to contact calipers

If the wheels will go on and then rub the calipers, then grind them. We are not talking at most an eighth of an inch in one spot probably and just use the scrapes to show you where to grind.

If they wont go on period then you need new wheels obviously.

Using wheel washers you need longer wheel studs for proper thread engagement. A cheap bad idea IMO.

It aint rocket science but buying wheels that fit in the first place sure does make it easier.

put a bolt washer behind the wheel.....1/16 inch or larger....should be safe

Haha B-was gonna recommend ya on this one. Is backspacing of rim an option to solution?? Grinding them down sounds legit.

i used the 1/4" spacers from pep boys for a while just to get by. i think they were around $20 or so.

I believe the rim backspacing for solid axles is 3 3/8" and the ifs is 4 3/4"

So wheel spacers like earlier mentioned or different backspacing.
