I'm looking to spend a couple hundred bucks so nothing too fancy, but he's likes that redneck look. The brushguard, big old mud tires and a big lift, so i want it to look good along with all of that. I don't know anything about trucks, so good brands, info about what is popular and looks great on his 84. I'm sorry if that's vague, like i said I'm clueless I'm just trying to get him an awesome present

Depending on how you want to set it up.

If it's a regular cab truck. Prolly look stupid to have a basket over the cab. But if you were talking about a storage layer over the bed. So two levels. Walmart here sales a large cargo basket that would suit the purpose, for $100. Now how to mount. A set of cross bars will work but I do not know best way to mount without seeing pics of truck.

http://www.walmart.com/search/?query...peahead=basket

But this set up will depend on what he carries in the bed of the truck. But could be set up to be removable.

I personally love the way roof racks look on our pickups. Especially if it extends over the bed a little. . and has lights mounted on it as well. I'm surprised I don't see more people with them. I would have one if I had the money or know how to build it

I've seen some full sizes with the set up. Even a dual bed and cab rack. Not trying to offend. Saw a newer taco with a custom bed rack set up. I thought it was pretty badass but looked more or less permanent. Think it was a hunting/ranch rig. Store gear high put kill low, avoid the mess.

yakima gutter mounted roof racks fit fine. if you want a basket and rack it likely wont be cheap new but used you might get one for a deal.

Red face

I really think your maybe looking or using the wrong terms here.

You can get him a light bar with lights .

A roof rack is most often made to haul some sort of cargo.

Maybe you can find some pictures of what your looking for.

I've been searching for a picture of one I saw on eBay for about $200. I can't find it now though. It was the basket and it had four mounting tabs for lights in the front. Wish I could find it.

If you go with new yakima gear, then no you can not clear all that for 300. Maybe used. Then you would have to add lights. Light bars can be had cheap. I just sold a DC, with KC lights for 25 bucks.
However utility racks are hit and miss. they are popular so they are easy too sell, they don't tend to take damage so they are normally in good shape. So they resale is kinda' high, not saying you can buy them used cheap. It is just harder.
