extend my internal cage to protect the passengers now!
im fitting a rear bench in my runner because my son is almost old enough for the trails. The problem is that the rear bench is out in the open. i need to extend my internal cage to protect the passengers now. i need some ideas on cage design. i still want my top to fit back on and i need a much room as possible for camping gear. simple yet strong and effective.
do runner benches come with lap belts or shoulder style????
my seat is a front bench from a second gen truck so i need to find some belts. i guess i could do some four points back there for saftey!!!

From the factory they came with a roll bar to protect the passengers in the rear seat. You might have better luck finding a factory roll bar.
Here's a good pic of the roll bar in relation to the rear seat: http://www.wabfab.org/home/brandon3.jpg
My '87 has lap belts, but there is a fitting on the roll bar to mount a shoulder belt. This is also visible in the above pic, they use it for a bracket for the bikini top. There are some posts about folks buying shoulder belt kits and mounting them.

i think the factory roll bar would work, do you have the seat with the mounting brackets and belts too??? maybe ill go on a road trip your way!!!
i kinda want something more custom that goes overhead and has some sweet handles. i have a grizzley tube bender and a welder. it's hard to visualize my goal, but i'll keep trying.

this is what i want to use for my kids. you can get it to go just behind the rear seat or all the way to the back of the runner.

I'd take $80 for it all. The 4Runner is actually at my shop in Oakhurst, which is about 40 minutes from Fresno.
Edit-I removed the roll bar, seats, and belts this afternoon. I have them set aside with the hardware if you are interested in them. The rest of the shell is off to the scrap yard...
