'85 cardan question

The rear U-joint in the cardan of my '85 was loose so I took it out and put in another. The '85 U-joint called for was slightly too wide (caps too wide) , so parts guy gave me one slightly smaller (after micing the old joint) he said was from a newer model--93 I think. I did replace the front driveline several years ago from a salvage yard and was told it was from an '85, but who knows. So I got the smaller one in but something ain't right. As the picture shows the flange joint is too far to the left--won't seem to center. The CV seemed to work smooth, but maybe I screwed something up in CV putting it all back together. The other half of the U-joint seems to be aligned perfectly with the CV. The cap is off the right side of the joint as I tried to get the thing back out but can't seem to make it go. Am about ready to go find another driveline.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan

It may be that you have an IFS front shaft? Still a DC, but has less travel allowed and, I believe diff joints. I'm not sure if there are variations in the IFS driveshaft joints. I wouldn't risk running it if that joint isn't centered and tight.

What you say makes sense. I'm kinda on hold right now trying to figure it out and starting to look for another driveline.
Thanks.

I can take pics or measurements of my 85 drive shaft if you need me to. I should have it back from the driveshaft shop by Friday.

I located another shaft and am going with it. Not it in yet, but is sound and supposedly from an 84. Comparing the 2 I see my old one has been ground down so know it was not from 84/85. I'll likely get the old one up to speed eventually. Pretty sure I'll need a new CV.
Thanks for comments.
