85 4x4 diesel

thinking about buying a 85 toyota 4x4 with factory turbo diesel guy wants 4000 for it needs a vac switch for the turbo. so right now its drivable as a non turbo also needs dimmer switch for headlights and the front yoke needs work so its 2wd is this a good deal? i know these trucks are rare but it needs some work. anyone have any input?

Talk him down if you can, but that's not much more than it cost me to do a diesel swap. If the rest of the truck is in decent shape, I say go for it.

You can put a manual wastegate on the turbo.

What yoke are you talking about? Should be flange to flange.

Are these 85 turbo diesel 2L's, for the 4x4 truck, reliable vehicles? I'm looking at buying one with 210k miles. In USA. I Don't know good prices for this but does anyone know if this would be a good idea at $7500? I definately want an Offroad 4x4 pickup diesel to haul materials and travel mountains.

I'd say for $7500 it had better be pristine. Finding parts for the yota diesels will be a lot harder than a 22r or re counterpart. Is it a 2l or a 2lt?

Either way, paying $7500 for a truck of this vintage would be very hard to do by me at least, no matter the engine it has.

honestly the 2l is a dog cause its naturally aspirated, the the 2lt still makes less overall hp than the gas 22r, plus you can get more power out of the gasser in the end and the parts are readily available. If you want a swap to be worth it do yourself a favor. Find an importer who can get JAP half cuts. Find what vehicles came with a 1kztve diesel engine. The half cut will have everything from the engine, tranny, ecu, wiring harness, smog equipment, radiator, air boxes, fuse boxes, relays and everything.

Then your sitting pretty at 130 hp with 211 lb ft torque...intercooled versions are pushing 145/253
