not meaning to steal this thread, but im getting a 85 4runner soon and i was looking to put 33's under it (pro comp mud terrains) and i wanted to know what kind of lift i should look into getting. I want to keep it as low as possible so probably a 3"/4" tops. Id prefer not to have to do a high steer. It'd also be nice if i got some wheel travel and articulation out of it. I know some of the cheaper lifts give you no different than stock. Budget is probably around 500$-1000$ and it will be a DD as well as a farm/hunting truck. Any help would be awesome! But most importantly it needs to be able to drive. And im not throwing 36 swampers under it or anything ridiculous so like i said before i really dont need anything big. Just enough to give me some more clearance and clear my 33's
and 2003mikem, is that a custom plow? or did you buy a frame and modify it to fit your runner?

whats the best brand though? i dont want it to be a piece of crap lift that is going to sag out on me after a couple months. and i was thinking 3" just to squeeze in as much travel as possible but still keep 'er pretty low

Old Man Emu, all the way, from the majority of what I've read for a 2"-2.5" lift. It's cush and sturdy and comes with everything you'll need, ....except great instructions, lol. Even that might be mostly rumor... I think the springs go right in. 900$ or so, to your door. Now, I'm not sure on that, seeing as you have a SFA and not IFS. Might be a lil more for 2 spring packs. Check em out, it's on rockyroads.com or something. Just google OME Lift Kit.
NOT saying it's the best, ..... depends on what you want. From what you're saying, I think it would more than serve your needs and last a long time as well, to boot! lol.

So you had 31" tires on a completely stock suspension? with 15" wheels? I have a 1985 pickup and I'm considering 31" tires. Did you have room for the tires? Any contact anywhere on the frame/body?
The A/T tires I have now are about 28" and they seem like they're fine. My suspension is totally original. Please excuse my ignorance, I've only had my Toyota 4x4 for a few weeks.

Not sure why you would, Outsane.... maybe cuz it's a SFA? Hmmm. I've had them on 2 Runners in a row (last was also IFS though)..and 3 different pick ups, including an 86, 89 and even an 83 w/SFA... NO modifications needed, bolted right on and drove it. You have more flex with a SFA, ....maybe that's the issue? I'll be doing Mega Travel bj's and spacers, diff drop and sway away and sway drop soon.... I guess I'll find out if the extra flex brings me to the 'RUB FACTOR', eh? lol.
