85 4Runner Engine Noise

I have a 22RE in my 4Runner. It hasn't been registered on the road in about 9 years. I got it running last October and put a timing chain in it earlier this year. I pulled the head off of it because it sounded like the rocker arms were worn really bad (rattling). It has 210,000 miles on it and I thought it would be a good idea to have the head redone. Beforehand, I adjusted the valves a few times with no changes. I had the head machined and reworked at a local machine shop. I installed a new cam and did all the work myself (minus the head work). This is the first 22R motor that I have done any type of major work to.

When I rev it up or go to shift gears, it sounds like a rattle in the top end and it sounds like it is coming from the back of the engine. I have adjusted the valves twice since I got it to run to specs (.008 in. intake and .012 in. exhaust). The timing chain, tensioner, and guides are brand new and the chain is tight (no slapping). I replaced all the gaskets, water pump, and oil pump. What gets me is that it runs really well, so I'm not leaning towards a bottom end issue yet. If you have any thoughts, let me know! I posted this thread earlier in another section. I'm new to Yotatech, so please overlook me. Thanks!

I had a mechanic listen to it run last week and he said it was definately a rod bearing. I'm planning on pulling the motor this weekend.

I pulled the motor out yesterday. I'm taking it to the machine shop tomorrow to have the block gone through. I'll post a few pics when I get a chance.
