85 22re efi idle problems!

This truck is really testing my patience but hopefully it will pay off. I bought it out of a barn after it sat for 3 years. Previous owner said its a 94 engine with the stock 85 efi and all it needed was a throttle position sensor. Bought a new sensor, blew the fuel lines out, changed the filter and strainer. Fired right up. After adjusting the valves (from what everyone says they're noisy anyway) and timing. When it cranks up it idles at about 1100 rpm ( lowest I can get it by turning the distibutor, which is still at about 25 degrees for some reason. Maybe a tooth off?) Anyway it idles fine until I put it in gear and give it gas to let off the clutch, roll a few feet, push the clutch back in it jumps to 1500-2000 rpm and will not go down. If I go under the hood and manually try to throttle it down it will go down as long as I'm holding it but if I let go it jumps back up. If shut the truck off then crank it back up it goes back to the previous 1100 rpm. This is my first fuel injected yota and so far I am not a fan of the efi. Can anybody help?

Make sure you have the distributor stabbed properly first. After that if she still won't idle properly then check the engine for codes. There is a chance you might need to clean out the throttle body. Fairly easy job and if your going to do that then you might want to peak in the upper plenum and possibly want to clean that out. If every thing is good then there is an idle screw on top left of the throttle body. But try not to adjust that until you make sure everything else is proper first.
