84 pickup slave cylinder
hey everybody i have a question... i have an 84 pickup and i just rebuilt it... but i wasn't the one to take it apart. my clutch slave cylinder is not aligning to the arm for the release bearing on the transmission? can anyone tell me why or if so how to fix this problem?

Photos? Or a better description. How is the alignment off? Like it's not even making contact and you can't drive it, or it's not pushing far enough out to totally work the clutch, or it's crooked, or what? Are both bolts in it?

ok well i tighten the bolts for the cylinder all the way down but then the piston has to extend to far out to the left and just ends up popping the boot off then dumps the fluid eveywhere. there is a little divet on the arm for the piston to sit snuggly into but its to far out im thinking the fork is to far out or not put in properly?

I don't think the rod should pop out no matter how far it has to extend. The rod may be screwed out all the way. I think you can adjust the length of the rod by turning it, and if that's the case, you can probably screw it all the way out to the point where it pops right out. So I guess I'd first try seeing if I can screw it in a little ways. If the clutch shift fork isn't in the right position, then the tranny needs to be dropped again...so hope that's not it. Who did the work? They're the ones who should be trouble shooting this.
If that's not possible then make sure the rod on the slave cylinder isn't screwed out all the way.

its not the fact the the boot just pops off the piston is shooting out on a diagonal and ends up one edge of the boot lifts off because when the slave is tight up against the fork sticks outta the tranny to far and i wasjust wondering if taking a few washers and spacing the slave on a diagonal will correct this?

Well, it seems like you aught to be able to vice the cylinder on a work bench and "bench test" it, to see if the piston is working right, and not have fluid come out or have it pop the boot off. If it's working correctly, no fluid should leak, whether or not it "misses" the clutch fork.
So you could try the washer method, but my guess is that either the cylinder is defective, the wrong one for your truck, or the clutch fork is installed incorrectly or is the wrong one for your truck. Or it's bent somehow. I would start by making sure the slave is the right one, and working correctly (which it doesn't sound like it is), then move on to the clutch fork. Want to rule out the cylinder first, since everything else pretty much means dropping the tranny again.
I've never run into this issue so I'm just trying to picture what could do it. Hopefully somebody here has run into it before and has some better insight for you.

yeah like the cylinder doesn't leak at all unless the boot pops off. and it is the right slave.. its the one that came with it when my dad bought it new in 84. so my thought now is the fork. cuz i looked on my old 4runner and the 4runnners fork is not nearly out as far as my trucks is and the slave lines up perfectly on the 4runner but what would make the fork come out that far?

If it's too long it could come out that far. Did you replace it or it's the original too? Only thing I can thing of that would make it come out too far is it not being all the way on the output shaft, so probably not really in contact with the throwout bearing and so all screwed up! Is it tight in there, or can you move it around easy?
Anyways, I'm leaving the office for the night so don't take it personall that I stop responding! You can maybe pop the boot off the fork/tranny and look in with a flash light and see if things are right in there...
Don't know what you'll be able to see, but things should be like this, minus the actual clutch.

Hey tekk9..
Did the fork slip off the pivot ball inside the bellhousing?
if it did, it can cause some misalignment problems at the slave.
