22r carb

22r carb
My 1985 truck keeps flooding, have rebuilt carb and porblem is sparatic. sometimes it runes fine and others it runs very rich. I think maybe the carb is fine but maybe a sensor it telling it to dump fuel. I was wondering if replacing it with an ealier 1980 non elec might help but dont know if they swap. Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Calvin

no sensor telling it to dump fuel. was the float replaced when it was rebuilt? sounds like either the needle and seat aren't sealing, or the float has sunk in the bowl.

After full rebuild carb runs better, but with engine off, my ‘85 22R Toyota Carb float reservoir leaks fuel into intake manifold. Does this seem like jet needle not seating or perhaps leaky power valve?

Ideas
Some ideas:
- can you see down the carb throat, look for leaks?
- fuel pressure? Don't know how it's been modded over the years. Mechanical fuel pump, not an always-on electric, right?
- there are $20-ish endoscopic web cams (tiny camera + LEDs on a cable), used with a laptop. Might be able to get one down the carb throat and see.
- if it's leaking, need to take it off anyway. Could rig fuel to it and see.
- is there a shutoff solenoid that's worn / stuck or getting power when it shouldn't?
- try another rebuild.
