I have 1984 22re 4x4 automatic pickup that is running extremely sluggish and drinking fuel like crazy. I was wondering if there was diagnostics for this truck and if so were is the plug

Are you sure it's a 22re and not a 22r? Toyota didn't produce a 22re until 85. If its a 22re then someone has converted it over to a RE and that could be part of the problem. If it wasn't done right then I'd say vacuum lines are screwed up or something.

Just to verify something..... Is your truck carbureted or fuel injected. Not trying to be a smart a** just wanna make sure we're on the right track.

It's fuel injected... I was under the impression they put a 22re in trucks but only with automatics in 1984

does the cab look like its original? have the vin tags been swapped?

Only asking cause i have never seen a 84 truck with factory fuel injection. Not saying they dont exist, just never seen one. You may find more info if you searched google for a 84 celica 22re. they were far more common.

This kinda reminds me of my 84 which came factory with auto hubs on the solid front axle. no one believed it came like that from the factory lol

If they did this is the first one I'd ever heard of. Not calling you a liar or anything but I've never even seen one with the build date in 84. Toyota's been known for some weird stuff tho. If I am correct about the 85 being the first year then you may have a title swap truck. Someone may have switched vins at some point or something. Or you may have a late 84 I really don't know.

Not to get off track with everything else but I have no clue about a diagnostic port. Although they do have a check engine sequence for diagnosing problems through the fault codes. Below is a good link to help ya with that.

Also can you provide me with the 10th digit in your vin number along with the manufacture date that's on the door pilar please and thanks.

I know they may not always have 100% correct info, but scroll down to "applications"

does the dash vin tag have "rossete" rivets?

Well the bin seems to match as the letter E stands for 1984

Damn I just got schooled..... I was unaware of that info that you just provided. I'd believe that you probably have a really rare truck. May not be tho. I didn't even no there was that many R engines lol. Well I hope my link helps ya man. Keep us informed on your progress

If I was you I'd compare the door tag to the vin tag that's mounted on the dash. That's just an extra precautionary to ensure nothing was swapped.

Check this out

Oh the best way to post pics is with photobucket the. Share a link

An even better thing to check is the vin on the frame. Im pretty sure its on the passenger side, just behind the front tire.

could still be a 85 truck with 84 vins swapped onto it..

Door tag vin tag and title numbers match and all tags have rivets in them. Is there newly to tell if this truck came with efi. Could I call Toyota and give them my vin number and they tell me. I took a picture of the door tag but I can't figure out how to post it

I would call toyota, they should be able to tell you what the truck came with.

the vins on the dash should look like a star. google rossete rivets. the vins on the door jam and firewall are just regular rivets

I dunno man.... Like I've said, I've never heard of a 84 having EFI. Just like that link I posted a min ago it even says it wasn't offered until 85, although your link said 83 or sum thing. Maybe some other guys on here can butt in on this. But yeah why don't you check the frame vin as well. And the pic thing ( use photo bucket ) then post a link

it was offered in 83- in celica's only. not in trucks.

to the OP on my truck there is a little black box, about 1inch by 1 1/2. You need to jump two pins with a paperclip and then watch the CEL to count the codes

it is located on the passenger firewall area, just behind the relay box

Called Toyota today they confirmed that my truck was 1984 with 22re but after that it takes a turn they said it came with a standard my truck is an automatic so I figured some1 swapped then when I got in it after work and was on my way home I realized that my shifter had the ECT button my gauge cluster has place for the ECT and my truck has cruise control

I have no clue what you got man but the EFI and auto tranny wasn't offered until 1985. You said the manufacture date is feb. so that makes no spence to me.
