1987 22ret truck, 5 speed, that was "basically" stock. At 110 I quit cause I was chicken. Miss that old truck, it was happy on the interstate.

1986 22re truck with automatic. With an overhauled engine I was happy to reach 75 on straight and level. That automatic sucked.

I sure hope my truck can hit 100kph (60mph) with 33" Bias plys and 4:10's.. It has a Weber 32/36, Header and a 5spd.

I hit 95mph on the way to vegas once, I didn't want to go any faster, because my rotors were warped. with 22re , 5 speed, and stock 28 in tires.

I was on a very hilly road to a friends house one time, saw a flat spot and nailed it, If I rememeber right I hit about 85... had a hard time keeping 90... hills were killin me!, I'm sure If I was on level ground I could hit 110 pretty easy, it'd just take a bit gettin there...

Anyway, I won't take my '81 up much over 70. 22R with what I think are 4.88's from counting shaft rotations. I can pull some hill's in 5th, 4th for sure on the highway without a lot of downshifting.

With a 4" lift, 33's and no front panhard bar (track bar..) the truck just doesn't feel like it should be driven much faster...IFS trucks are much more stable. And I use a GPS for my speedo

pullin hills with a 20R/4spd is fun theres this one hill out side of town to get to my favorite wheelin spot, i gotta get a running start, 3rd floored, to hit it and stay in 3rd pinned at 35 ugh

and x2 on the IFS trucks being more stable, that extra 3" and gulp...IFS does seem to help um my 4runner was the only thing i've driven that i felt "safe" in

well i raced my friends stock 92 toyota pickup 22re with my 88 v6 3.0l and i smoked him, i made it to 95 mph on the highway pretty easily but then i got pulled over NO joke, first time ever getting pulled over but the cop was ing awsome, he just told me to slow down, lol when i went to get my registration there was a ing pipe in the glove box @_a he didnt see it thankgod.

Got my 3.0 to 95 downhill it scared the heck out of me though. Absolutely no control at that point. I regularly cruise at 65.

I cruise between 80-90 on the freeway all the time. I haven't gotten it any faster for fear of pushing it to far. I feel it could easily do 100+ just don't want to chance it.

130 mph on an 88 4Runner

I had to run this through a calculator as my speedo only reads 110 My truck will easily redline 5th gear and only one time did I truly test this.. I didn't have GPS for actual speed so I'm going by the mechanical physics of my setup-

At 5500RPM's on a 4.56 gear set, with an R150 transmission in 5th gear (.85 ratio), on 31.2" tires (275/70 16's), the speed would equal roughly 130 mph. I'm certain this was the case as the white lines were pretty blurred I also happened to be racing a late 90's Civic driver who later confirmed his speedo was pegged beyond the 120 limit for a bit

So before anyone pipes up about all the inherent dangers of doing this on a public road and in a truck, lemme 'splain all the facts-

This was done with the truck at stock height (no suspension or body lift), on appropriately speed rated performance street tires, with oversize front and rear swaybars, and during an early Sunday morning returning from a float trip (no traffic except the Civic) on a rural area of hwy 44 (no entrances and exits for several miles). The only other car on the road was the Civic (complete with a wing and huge wheels) so I felt this would be a good time to see how fast the 4Runner could go It was impressive to leave the Civic several car lengths behind up until I approached redline and held it steady at 5500rpms for a bit.. If I had a taller 5th gear I'm certain it would've gone there but I don't think engineers had aerodynamics in mind for speeds much above 100 on the 1st gen 4runner. As for the Civic, he never passed me.

I have since added a 1/2" body lift and roughly 2" suspension lift with 33" tires so I keep my speeds limited to no more than 90 mph for obvious safety reasons. I also got a ticket going over 90 mph and I discovered the cost goes up exponentially beyond 79 mph.

I meant 1st Gen Trucks (it's the pre 84 folder), you 1st Gen 4Runner guys always seem to think you are the 1st 1st Gen
though I will admit with the 3.4 Conversion I would love to have your 4Runner

I've done over 80 with a very tired 3.8 buick 3.90 gears and 35" BFGs before it ran out of power, It had a much higher top speed with 32s and 4.56s. I think I've gotten it up to no more than 45 in the last few years, but this latest engine has a 6,000+ red line and will smoke the 35's so I'm sure it would pull past that. When the truck was new I might have been able to do 75, the first engine I put in there gave me a higher top end (3.90's w 32"s), but I don't remember what it was. It drives much better at 45 than at 70.

Another pre-84 P/U to add. I had my 81 22R, 5 speed, 4.10's and 235 75 R 15's up to 78 miles per hour on a flat stretch of I-79. Most every thing else was passing me but the little truck felt pretty stable even at that speed. Fred

my 82 4x4 had a new motor with bout... on level ground in 5th with 31s and 4.10 gears I maxed out at 111 but could of gone faster but hit a slopeand it slowed me down

Hit 90 mph on flat ground with more to go, 22r, comp cam, header, 5 speed, 31's and 4.56 gears. Usually cruise along at 70 to 75 when going to AZ. The 33's are reserved for winter driving and zero long trips, slows the truck down too much.
