Value this 1980 for me

This truck came up locally for sale. Owner wants $8200 for it.

The Good
Body looks to be in great shape, straight, no visible rust, and paint looks fresh. Current owner has all books, and it was a California truck. A previous owner swapped the engine to a 22R and it has the 4MT. Transfer case and 4wd works well. The truck has factory air, but the compressor is out. The ODO reads 54k but I think the body has 154k miles on it, maybe 254k. Not sure when the 22r was added. It has the old school pre-'81 VIN on it (10 digit) so I can't run a vehicle history report, but the books indicate it had roughly 100k miles in the late 90s.

The Bad
Carb needs service and the truck idles rough, needs new battery, e-brake needs repair, and the A/C compressor needs to be put back in. At $8200 the owner said he will take care of all the above except adding the compressor. Interior needs a little work, there are some tears in the headliner, and a small crack on the dash.

The Ugly
Owner does not have the title and is working with the CA DMV to get it. I won't do the deal until this is in place.

Assuming all the above and the pictures, $8200 still feels high to me. But the market is hot these days. Thoughts?

Market is hot these days? I almost had to give my truck away when I sold it.

The body on the truck is straight, any bondo work done to it? Fresh paint also a giveaway.
I'd say it's way too high, how high? Just depending how much money he's trying to get back out of it.

Yes from what you have stated is looks way too high, unless it's the original paint which it does not appear to be.

Doubt the truck is worth anywhere near that. They are fairly common on the west coast. Maybe not in as good of condition, but a fresh coat of paint will cover a lot of serious issues.

As a collectors item, maybe it has some value, but not as much with the repaint and potential body work done to it. Mine isn't nearly as pretty, but i know it is solid after rebuilding everything. Would not let mine go for less than $6,000.

Of course, it is worth what somebody is willing to pay, and often that is way too much.

If it was original paint and motor then the price is fair but because of those changes its not what I would consider a good truck if your looking for a collectable vehicle.....fresh paint is always a red flag to me.....this truck recently sold on ebay from CA and now appears to be in Texas....another red flag as to why its being resold so quickly...

Can't say i would ever buy a vehicle with out actually being able to inspect it. Hell, for an $8,000 "investment" you might as well spend a few hundred getting out there to see it in person!
