adding power steering to a non power steering truck
Im looking to add [pwer steering to my 81 toyota 4x4... the truck currently doesnt have power steering, I have the pump, resivour, and gear box out of an 84 4x4... is it a direct bolt in or do I need it all from a 79-83...
both trucks are 22R 4WD solid axle pick ups only difference I noyiced was the resivour mounting...

Someone on the Marlin site did this to their 1st gen with an '85 steering box, and they also needed to modify the steering shaft length, becuase I think maybe the box on the '85 is a bit differen't length. If you look at the Marlin forum under '79-95 tech you should run into a thread about putting power steering on a non power steering truck.

Seems like otherwise it may have all lined up, but I'm not sure.
Hm nevermind I see you've already been there. Pm that guy and ask what he had to do. Otherwise, yeah, try it out and see what works.
I luckily just found an '83 power steering set-up so other than drilling some holes for the reservior I think I should be all set.

To bleed the system just jack the front end up off the ground and just keep steering back and forth with the engine running of course. Make sure the lid isn't sealed and top up fluid as needed.
