Aaron's 83 "Project Frankenstein"

I started off with a 83' long bed and quickly found out the frame was twisted.

So then I found a junker 83 short bed with a straight frame and started to get to work

Picked up some goodies from Marlin

got a lot done

And this is what it looks like right know

I saw a truck like that in the local junkyard...
Was thinking of snatching it,
But by the time I got back it was stripped so all that was left was the drive train (axels, t-case, tranny) the cab with no interior left, and the bed...

Can't wait to see it done!!

Getting the 5.29's put in this week, so hopefully she will be on all four by the weekend. The only problem is I have to get the drivelines lengthened so thats going to put me off for another week.

Here is a more complete buildup of my truck http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=29605.0

OK I need some help guys. I can only afford one locker so what should I get (not arb) and what axle should I put it on. Remember the rig is going to be a DD so I need something practical and I dont want to weld anything.

rear aussie. I acutally had a welded rear on my 80 with 33s as a d.d. and it was barely noticeable, i guess you could spool the rear for even cheaper. since you dont want to weld.

I too would put in my vote for a rear Aussie locker. Once my truck doesn't suck and I get my drivetrain in better shape I'm putting an Aussie in the front and back, super cheap and I've heard and read nothing but good stuff about them.

I vote spool they are cheap 130 dollars and will not open up when you need them the most. I used to drive a jeep with a ford 9in and a full spool every day with no probs. The worst side effect is tires wear faster. Cool project.

I am going to run whats on the truck in the last pic. 35/12.5/15. I have some 37's but they are on my cruiser, so i will just wait till i wear these down then i'll step up to 37's, but i also have to upgrade my axles and birfs. before the tires

Do you think you will have to do any fender trimming to run the 37's up front. I was hoping to run the marlin 5" on my 83 but I want to keep the fenders original for the cool factor. If you cut them the truck will just look like every other post 83.

Judging from your pics it looks like I might be able to get away with it as long I adjust my bumps down a little.
