82 Toyota Carb issuie
Ok so I have a nice 82 yota with a new carb on it but be it I live in californhell it wont pass smog. I am thinking that when I bought this carb I got one with 48 state jets in it. There is no way to tune it to pass cruise test without dealing with jets or so I am told. Anyone got any ideas ? I am getting pretty frustrated with this. Heck if anyone who lives in concord, ca area feel like helpin out let me know. I am good at motors and suspension just not all that good at figuring out carbs like this. I have thought of buying a carb rebuild kit and seeing if that would solve the issue. Oh and the carb was purchased over a yr ago and so they wont help me out.

Well it use to true where jets were not such and issue since they only rev'd motor to rpm. Now that they dyno at 15 and 25 I am told that jetting could cause it to fail 25 mph run. A little bit out this engine might help. I just recently put a head gasket on and the carb was put on over a yr ago. The truck has been sitting since I put carb on and it still failed smog. At that time it was due to the head gasket leak between cyclinder 1 and 2. I have adjusted the valves 3 times and heck I even did the old loosen the intake valves so that it wont open as far. Nothing has helped. So I talked to mech friend and he told me that its poss jetting since 25 mph test is all about how much fuel is getting dumped into engine. Oh and my HC reading barely passed 15 mph test but at 25 mph it was 60 HC high. The engine is running extremely well. Heck better then ever has since I got it.

I just read it and for the parts which pertain to carbs ive done it besides adjusting the timing back more. I was running 10 deg on last test I believe which I know doesnt help. I am gonna see if I can get away with 5 deg next test. I know I can pay a carb shop to fix this issue for me but its gonna cost 150 bucks. I would rather do the work myself. I am gonna go find some of that smog test stuff they have thats suppose to make passing a breeze. Problem is I like to make things right. I will post back when I know more.
