Arrow 82 idle and restart issues on new motor and rebuilt carb everyone stumped!

I just put a fresh motor in an 82 with a rebuilt carb and an LCE header.
The truck fires when cold but after I take it for a spin and shut it down I cannot get it to start. It will not fire. I have to wait about 30 min. before I can start it. This symptom does not seem like a vacuum issue to me however I am certain there are vacuum lines mixed up. I have all the diagrams I can find but none of them are exact to this rig. It's an 82 california 4x4. It has a very jerky idle and I cannot get the timing mark to hold still on the pulley wheel. The truck is smooth over 2000rpm but anything lower and it is puttering and jerky. The cat is full of sand like particles that spit out the back end. There was also very old gas that went through it in addition to fresh gas. The cat is coming back out . I did the best I could to clean the tank. I am not sure if this would cause the rig not to start after warmed up and shut down???
The truck has the same symptoms every time. I shut it down after running it for a spell and it won't start back up unless I wait at least 20min.
I also replace the alternator and the charge light will not shut off on the instrument cluster. Any ideas on that would be great.

I am unsure if this applies but it might be something to look at. I had a '75 Corvette that wouldn't start after the vehicle had been warmed up, but would start every time when it was cold. Every time, I would have to wait sometimes more than an hour to get it to cool down enough to start after very short periods of run time. The problem ended up being the ignition coil. It would heat up and run fine during the run tests but couldn't seem to make the proper voltage on restart. I am still learning about these trucks and am unsure if the system is exactly the same, but it seems similar from what I've seen and it might be part of your problem.

That is interesting. The issue with this truck is it was firing with no problem on the old motor so I don't think the coil is the problem but I will check that.

that helps. I have a few extra ones I will throw a new one on. I did a few things today that seemed to help. I managed to get the tank pretty clean. New gas has helped a little but there is still a pretty rough idle and anything below 1500rmp it will sputter and die.

make sure your flout bowl keeps filled 1/2 way on the sight. What did you set the valve lash at? have you done a compression test to see if u might have low compression due to a tight lifter or a valve not seating?

8722R-TE he has a weber on there, no visible float bowl, unless you take the entire top part (air horn) off the carb. Not something I would do unless I was planning on rebuilding the carb.

Actually this is another rig. I have the stock carb on it. I just rebuilt it.

I would say vac leak if it won't idle well at 800 rpm. Something is open.
