82 hi lux build.

i am new to yotatech, i actually found it by researching stuff for my 82 toyota. so please bare with me.

i got my toyota a few weeks back, i actually traded a honda civic for it , beings that i am no person for a car but i got the car threw insurance cuz my 87 extra cab toyota i had and was building got caught on fire by a buddy's rig in front of my shop. sad day! but anyways when i got this truck i have now there was no exhaust on it, and all the vaccuum lines were all in the wrong places and the interior needs some major cleaning for this truck has sat for a couple years. it just simpley needs work.i got it knowing it needed work and i needed a project to keep me busy and its what i like to do is build toyota's, when i was 16 i had built an 84 and i loved it!

i havent been able to do much to it so far due to knee injuries but so far i have cleaned out the interior some what and i have put on a 40 seriers flowmaster, i have also put on a 4 inch lift, and some 35'' bfg km (the originals) well after i did all that i started to drive it and well things went down hill from there. first my rear end grenaded on me so i was a little pissed about that but i threw it in 4 hi and continued to drive home for i was only 2 miles from home. well bout a mile from my house i herd the worst thing ever. rod knock!! so now im currently in the process of yarding out the "social retard's" (the name my buddy gave her) motor and im going to build the motor. im going to bore it .30 over with high comp pistons, and im going to have my valves 2 sizes bigger with a rv cam. i have a 22r block with a 20r head. i had put on a webber carb the day i got it for it had a stock one on and was running like crap. i also had put full length headers on as well for the stock manifold had a crack.

while the motor is out im going to redo the lift and im going to make shock hoops, and put chevy 63's in the rear and ifs rears up front and i got some 5150 shocks that im gonna throw on there as well. and of course rebuild my rear end, im thinking of putting 5.29's front rear in with a lockrite locker.

i will post pics on here as soon as i can for you guys to see the social retard. i will also keep all you guys updated threw out my build and more then likely ask quistions along the way.

does anyone know what gears would be good for 37" tires? ive had people tell me that 5.29's wont be that great for them but i have had others tell me thats what i should run. but im turning the social retard into a trail rig/crawler. any info on anything for my build would be very much appreciated!

thank you!

For the brakes, search for "big brake upgrade"

Pretty much the minimum stuff needed to get it working together is (what I used) '83 fj60 rotors, '90 v6 4Runner calipers, and a 1" bore master cylinder. A better brake booster would help, but my pedal is just stiff without it, brakes aren't grabby.
