81 Toyota Pick-up Carb and General Questions
I have just picked up a coolz project and fun truck once i get it fixed up.
The truck i have has california emissions. From what i can see 90% of the emissions controls are still there. Well someone did remove the smog pump.
The history is kinda of faint on this truck. But i do know the PO had the engine rebuilt and a new (stock yota) carb put on it. The motor seems legit and the carb seems new as well. But i think somethings wrong with the choke and then some.
If its cold it will not start at all. I have to spray some carb cleaner in the intake to get it to run but then its fine for the day.
The truck runs pretty ok considering it sat for 2 years once it gets started anyway. But it HIGHLY underpowered. I couldn't hardly get it past 40mph. But otherwise its "ok."
The truck also had factory A/C which is set up interesting. More than likely I'm going to eliminate it though. For what i plan to use the truck for its not really needed.
I did read a few threads about the emissions. I don't pretend to know alot about the emissions set-up on the first gen trucks as this is the first one i've ever owned. I know everything about an EFI 22re but not much of anything on the first gen 22rs.
Bookoo vacuum lines routing to bookoo vacuum valves a switches. I know most of these things are not needed. I plan to take the carb off and inspect it and clean it up a bit. Assuming that it is in fact a "new" one.
NOTE: Keep in mind i bought this truck from the owner who had it in storage for 2 years. Right after he rebuilt the motor and a new carb he put in storage for 2+ years. Then i bought it. They just drove it up to the storage place and parked it. Sitting ever since.
I've seen people say that the only thing i really need out of all the emissions equipment is the vacuum advance to the Dizzy.... Well... Dur i know i need that but is that it? I would think detaching certain stuff from the stock carb would kinda of trip it out a bit. But I'm not too sure. I was brought up as a mechanic where all cars have computers... What the F is a carb jk
Even thought the motor was rebuilt and the carb installed the truck has been highly neglected so i plan to tear the entire engine compartment to pieces to do some fixing...
I'm kind of just looking for opinions and comments. And hopefully some of ya guys that have these kinda trucks will gimme some adivce

I'd change the fuel filter (if you have not). Most of the problems I had came from dirty fuel & a gummy carb. I got tired of working on the carb so pulled it & injected the truck.

Umm... I can't say that the A/C system puts out. I already cracked one othe lines to let out the remaining pressure and it had quite a bit when i did and refrigerant came out so the system was fairly tight... The compressor is not locked up.. and the lines and condesor look ok... I was just going to take it out and put in storage somewhere...

Ok so I tore some stuff out today. Not alot but a lil. I'm taking my time while deciding what to do with certain things.
Took the wench off for one to get the condensor out and two it doesn't work.
Also trying to figure out if the block in truck is the factory one. It looks legit but theres some things that concern me. The motor was supose to ahve been "rebuilt" and the shop who rebuilt it is no longer in buisness >_<
