1983 & 1984 4WD Axle/driveline compatibility.

Hey guys. I kinda messed up my truck this weekend on the rubicon and need another rear driveline. My truck is a 1984 4WD, ext cab. I found a 1983 4WD parts truck, complete. I was thinking of getting it cause the price is right.. and i was thinking of keeping the axles to use as spare parts as well. But im not sure if the '83 & '84 axles & drivelines will work.

I actually didn't break anything. Just came down on my rear driveshaft and bent it alittle.

it should work as long as it's the same length.
The only differences are 86 ifs and up when they went to a larger bolt size the flanges changed on the diff's and driveshafts.

Hey! And if you buy it...I've got a very small part or two I'm looking for...and there are always a few things I probably need for my '83....too bad I can't find any 1st gens around here.

Actually though now that I think about your question, I'm not sure that it will fit. The transmission on your truck is (I'm pretty sure) a bit longer than the 83, which would make the driveshaft shorter than the 83's. Measure though, to be sure. You've got the extracab, which maybe lengthens the driveshaft a bit? I guess you'd better measure.

Thanks.

I was thinking if the '83s body is in better shape than mine, i may just use it as my rig and part out the '84 I have now. Except I love my extra cab, so we'll see.
