First off great story, and good thread...
kind of off topic but has anyone one you known gone in any of those mines?
I have to admit I'm kind of obsessed with abandoned mines after stumbling upon, and going in some in CO.

Thanks Steve for the GPS coordinates. Looks like we have some exploring to do Ben...better get a start on those dual cases soon.
In regard to the "no joke" sign trail...are 2 lockers definitely mandatory or is it do able with solid axles, dual cases, sliders...winch...? Oh yeah and is the rollover spot on this same trail?
GodwinAustin -
I have not known anyone that has gone into those mine shafts that are scattered across the deserts out here..but every now and someone is dumb enough to get alittle to close to the mine shaft or decides to go in and they fall into them and have no way out...until the fire dept comes and rescues them.

No Joke is real, 2 lockers or don't go there. It's also an in and out, same trail in, turn around and then same trail back out. The roll over spot is down hill, so you'll be OK there.
There is some real rough stuff out there.
All of that is on the same loop, alot further than you guy made it, plan on a good 12 hours to run the entire loop, it's very long and slow going.

We went left after the tin shed to find the way to cow creek and I'm sure it's out there. If we went right at the shed, we were correct in thinking that it would get us to Horse Thief. There is one more turn though and if you miss it you'll end up looping back around south towards the agua fria. The no joke sign and rollover point are down this way pretty far. According to my map this loop will bring you back to Boulder creek before Tip Top, is this not the case?
I hate tippy spots.

That makes sense Ben. The trail to cow creek must be a left at the junction to the (above tip top) area where that semi trailer is. That rocky ridge that decends into the canyon just after the junction looked interesting from the top of the hill...we'll have to check it out.
