Evans Creek, WA Memorial Day Run
Hey everyone,
Me and a couple of friends went out to Evans Creek on Monday. It was me in my 93 4Runner with my fiancee Shelly and our lab Nemo, a Samurai and a 70 series LC. The weather was awesome and there wasn't a lot of people around. We got up there at around 11am.
Overall the trail wasn't hard. I got pulled a couple of times because my lack of lockers and got a dented fender from being pulled into a rock. Nothing that a hammer won't fix. We got up to a clearing that looks out to Mt. Rainier (it was clouded over and didn't bother taking pictures), had lunch, took a couple of pics and headed down. Much to our surprise, on the way down we started hitting snow (it's the side of the mountain that doesn't get much sun). It was a bit slippery but nothing bad. We got up to 4 samurais that were waiting for an old jeep pickup to go up a hill. Once they were out, the samurais went and then us. The ruts were deep enough that my attempt at low speeds got me stuck. My front axle was sitting right on the snow. A pain in the butt. Got towed out by the LC and went up the hill. Passed the samurais and kept going. When we got to the forest road covered in snow, found the jeep guy again. He was alone, with bald tires and a bad alternator. So, we jumped the guy and towed him bwds. He went for it and got stuck. Pulled him out and stuck again, we did that like 5 times. Every time he would go and let go off the gas and get stuck. Once he got the idea he gunned it and went all the way thru.
This road was flat and covered in snow for about a quarter mile. So we try to go and I get stuck because I didn't have enough momentum. The LC comes back to try and pull me and gets stuck. By now, behind us there are, the 4 samurais and 3 jeeps and a 40 series LC. It's about 11 cars total in line to get out. The jeep guys pass us and help us out. So now I'm free and the 70sLC is free.
In writing this is quick. Everytime someone got stuck it took about 20 min to either winch out or pull out. The jeeps and the 40 series pass and go and keep getting stuck ahead. We give the jeeps some time to get ahead. Now it's my turn, I back up and once I'm sitting on some flat snow I hit the gas like never before, first gear and shift and keep going until I catch up to the 70sLC and make sure that I'm in a solid spot. We wait for our samurai and keep doing that until we hit less snow.
All in all, it was a fun adventure but we weren't prepared for the snow. We got delayed about 2 hours because of that. Here are a few pics.

Hey all...I'm usually on the 'Brown Room' and was looking for info on Evans Creek, we're planning on wheeling up there on the 30th (Sunday) probably a bunch will head up on Saturday and camp.
At least 3 FJ's and 2 Jeeps are going, probably more FJ's by the time we get it all sorted out.
If you check out either FJCCentral or any of the other billions of forums I'm trying to coordinate or at least try and get other peeps the heads up and we can all meet up there...more details as the days get closer...
PS.
Hey dmorenopreito, who's the Venezuelan?
(me esposa esta tambien)

Hey,
Thanks for the invite. My Runner is in the shop and may be out for the rest of the summer but it sounds like an awesome trip. I'll pass it along to my buddies.
Every guy on that run is from Venezuela. There's a bunch of us that hang and wheel together.
