Colorado 4Runner Jamboree 2008
Thanks for everyone showing up and making this years Jamboree a success!! I didn't count the # of rigs total but it was well above 30 for the weekend.
We had a decent sized group run Holy Cross on Friday. We had the entire trail to ourselves for most of the day (we ran into 3 Jeeps at the top). These pictures are from Jade on COTTORA
Lining up for the second obstacle after The Bailout. Isaac going for a difficult line in the background.
Doug sneaking around on the usual line.
Some minor detail of Isaac's line.
Jay on the usual line.
Nate following Isaac.
Some of the parking arrangements while letting some of the bigger trucks passed us at French Creek.
The right side line just through French Creek. (I didn't get names of some folks.)
Sort of the "right line". Maybe a little too right.
Isaac broke a bead at French Creek.
Aaron motoring right through the right side of French Creek. This is the same line that Nate did.
Except this last little bit.
This truck took a little more time and effort.
Some pictures of Cleveland Rock for Nic. When I arrived on the scene this is where I found Aaron. It's a long way down on the right side.
He tried this line.
and tried....
...and eventually took a break.
Cory suggested this line.
I had to wiz and missed his summit....
The difference between Aaron's 4 Runner and Cory's XtraCab wheelbase was only 3 inches, but made a difference.
...a tow strap to bring that driver's side tire down and a little extra weight on the passenger tire did the trick.
Same scenario here.
After hiking down from Holy Cross City....
...we found Nate at French Creek, in a bit of a spot.
and a spot of another kind....
There is still just a little snow up high yet.
6 of us ran BV Carnage on Saturday. I don't have pictures or video yet but it was a good day. We did have some carnage, R&P toasted, DIRTCO busted his brand new windshield, Cubuff4Runner bent a rear axle housing, tons of new body damage on everyone!

DonG, Poorboyota26, 4RunnerFreak & I went up Mt. Antero on Sunday. Beautiful drive as always. Kevin, Danny, Tara, & I scrambled to the summit for a quick look around before the electric storms came in and made our CB antennas buzz.
On the way up we met a Cummins-powered rig with a Subaru Forester body. I think PoorBoy got a picture of it. I'd like to know more about it. Has anyone found anything on the web about it?

I'll post a bunch... I had a good time, next time I'll probably camp. Volcom, thanks for putting this together. If you do it next year I'd be willing to help out.
CAMP
CHINAMAN's (in no particular order)
IRON CHEST, went by my lonesome, probably wasn't the best idea, I had to winch myself out once.

I had a great time running Holy Cross & Carnage. It was nice to finally put some faces to the names... I had to make a few trips back and forth to Pueblo to get my rig and Aaron's down there and then got a ride back up to Denver. I finally made it home at 11:00 last night... It was one long day. Now time to find a new housing.

I've had friends tell of being up on the mountain when their mountaineering axes started "singing". Been above Yankee boy when everyone's hair stood on end (we dove into the vehicles as quickly as possible). This is the first time I've seen what the static will do with a CB antenna. Had radio disconnected to use as walkie-talkie, and the antenna connector was arcing about every 15 seconds.
Was very much relieved when the whole party was inside vehicles. As the "senior" member of the hiking party, didn't want to be responsible for someone getting struck. Not sure everyone else was aware of the seriousness of the situation. By the time we got part way down the trail in the vehicles, I think they were, as lightning was striking in the vicinity of where we had just been.

When did you go? I was looking for you & Mythica & Mtn_goat, Saturday morning, but couldn't raise anyone on the radio. Was in St. Elmo @ 10am. Headed up IC about 11am, solo also. Figured I could winch if needed. Got about 50yds from the top end of the Rock Garden before my passenger front valve stem was crushed by a rock (flat) (Anyone ever seen that happen before??????). Had to change the tire and put on my 235/75/15 spare. Local kid on old Honda bike, Anthony, came along and helped stack rocks to jack on and spot me getting turned around. Met Mt_Goat, DonG, Ike, & (Pest?) at the trailhead. They'd gone up Grizzly first.

I had a fantastic time. Thanks Aaron for setting it up. I'm sad I didn't win Scotty's bumper, but at least it went to another 4Runner that actually NEEDED it! Congrats PoorBoy! Hope to do this again next year.
