If you have a 22RE and its all stock, then I wouldn`t go any larger than 2'' pipe. If you have a built engine with a performance cam, ive read were some here are running 2 1/2'' exhaust pipe. But to me that seems way to big for the 22RE. If I had a built 22RE I personally wouldn`t go any bigger the 2 1/4'' pipe at the most. On my 86 4Runner I have a Downey header on it, but there no longer in business. Check out LC Engineering for the header, or do a google search because im sure there are other companys out there that sell headers for toyotas. The muffler is something you need to decide on your self, do you want it loud or quiet ?. I have a 50 series flowmaster on my 4Runner and its to to loud.

Something else to consider, if your engine is all stock a header wont give you any huge gains in power. I would stay with the stock exhaust manifold and replace the catalytic and on back.

    I hope this helps.
