And here is what it looks like to be sitting on the comfy chair! It is very nice with the tailgate open because there is plenty of room for your feet. With the tailgate closed, your feet definitely touch the tailgate. Depending on how thick your mattress is and how tall you are, it might not work for you. I am 5'10 and my mattress is about 3" thick (we deflated our air mattress some so it would bend easier) and I wasn't too claustrophobic.
