The Super Awesome Cupholder Mod! (89 4Rnr)

Being dissatisfied with the lack of place to hold a can of soda or coffee and possessing of a plethora of parts from various cars over the years I fabricated a cupholder. All you will need is a single din radio a Toyota aftermarket radio kit with the extra pocket a 4th generation VW Golf/Jetta Cupholder and some various filing grinding cutting tools and VOILA!

also heres a couple varios pics of my in progress stereo install....

Big Pimping Xtant Amp

Q Forms with Infinity Referance 6.5s

Also have a 10" sealed sub and a changer waiting to go in the drivers side rear.

Let's say someone like me has no clue what a 4th Gen Jetta is year wise? What years would that be?

My wife has a 2001 VW Jetta and it has that exact same cup holder.

Actually they are for second gen I am fairly sure, even though Q forms says that are for 89' didnt toyota sell 1st and 2nd gen models concurrently in 1989? Anyways the fit is so close that is what they look like with no modifying. I am going to color match them with vinyl paint and do some minor trimming and fill in the space at the top with vinyl. Also I DID NOT have to move the ECU.

And 4th Generation Golf/Jetta would be 99-2004. the cupholder literally snapped into the metal mount brackets of the radio. a small 1/4 inch peice of wood will space it from the radio and hold it firm against the metal tabs on the bracks. the rest is trimming out the pocket and the trim ring and thr front of the cupholder. there is a flap/cover to remove and grind down the metal top and the corners a bit. easily figured out.
