?? about bad spot on Front spindle
I had a roaring sound while driving. Been thare about a week. Thought it was the tires, but then got worried it was the bearings. Pulled suspect hub and the outside bearing was toast. There is a small wear patch on the spindle. Its always been there since I got this in 96. It looked a little worse today. Figured it was due to the overheated bearing. Look at this pic of it. It does catch a fingernail when I scratch it. Should I be worried about this? Should I replace the spindle because of it? I already installed a new bearing and race and cleaned and repacked that hub and its other bearing. Roaring sound gone and rides smooth again, but should that spindle be replaced due to the wear patch on it?

It looks like the race was spinning on the spindle. It would probably be OK, but if you want to be sure.......
It might be nice to not have to wonder about it being OK while coming down 4th of July pass with the family and all vacation gear.
Did you mic it at all to see how much was worn?

No. I dont have a mic set so I cant tell you the spec on it. I think I will leave it for now and just be on the lookout for another one. I will more than likely start pulling the hubs once a year to inspect and repack. I dont think I have had them off in the past 3 years.
