I accidentally backed up using 8.3 short filenames before formatting a week ago. Now it's a PIA to find restored files because my desktop search app, X1, no longer recognizes my search terms compared to the cryptic 8.3 names.

I tried a few settings to restore long names without success. Ideas?

 

you cant...

once you only have 8.3, the LFNs are gone...

open up a dos window (command prompt) and do a DIR.

if it shows an 8.3... it's a goner...
