anyone know if a set of 33x12.5s will fit on a set of the stock alloy wheels from a 96 tacoma...just the standard six spoke alloys..im guessing they must be 15x7? i may be wrong

 

it will work but 15x8s would be better

 

Most Tire shops won't put 12.5" tires on 7" wide wheels!!

 

It's right on the edge. The rule of thumb is 4" max difference, so usually, x12.50 are mounted on 8-10" wide rims.

The problem will be that the tire won't wear properly because it will be bulged too much. To get it to sit flat, you'll have to run lower air pressure, which will cause bad gas mileage.

 

The maximum recommended for 15x7 wheels is 31x10.50 tires.

 

My 36-12.50x15 TSLs are "specified" for 8x15 rims, it's stamped right on them.

 

Mounting a 12.50 on an 8" rim also acts as a poor man's beadlock.

 

actually mounting a 12.50 on a 7" wheel is the poor man's bead lock. I have ran 32X12.50 and now run 31X12.50 on 7" wheels. Only the 32x12.50 had the issue with lower pressure to solve for the crowing in the tread, which the said tire was bias ply. Though it is obvious now that the sidewall is not flexing in the correct locatin with the 31" tires. 33's will be much better since they have a taller sidewall. I run about 28psi in in the 31" tires right now, which is down from 32-34psi average. I have no way to speak for mpg since my tread and tire weight kills me not necessarly the psi.

There are a few issues companies and shops have when mounting a tires on a narrower than specd wheel. The sidewall will not flex in the correct area, could build excess heat and lead to failure. No shop wants to have a legal issue down the road if your tires fail. Also the tread will crown, but as I said usally only affects bias plys.

The only way you will find out for sure will be to try it. IMO a 33x12.50 on a 7" is a great setup, but it will be up to you in the end to pull the trigger. On both 31 and 32 tires I ran, both had 1k mile trips on them with no issues.

 

I have to disaggree...15x8 is the most narrow that MOST places, even shady one man shops will put on. I asked about it at a couple different places, it's a no go. Of course if you can put it on and balance it you'rself.....I still wouldn't do it, but whatever.

 

The tire shop here installed my 33x12.5 on the factory 15x7's, now that's only because I know them well. (Long story) I run 30psi, with now bulging in the center. As for mileage - who knows because I didn't regear and have the 3slow auto combo with the extra weight of the runner....

 

Discount Tire mounted my 33x12.50 TrXuS M/T's on 15x8 black steelies no questions, I prefer the look of a 12.50 on an 8" rim compared to a 10" rim, the 10" looks too wide at the rim IMO... However, they wouldn't mount a 33x10.50 on my stock 7" spare rim, whatever that means. I just bought a black steel for my spare too, only $40 a piece after all. Also, they refused to do a 285.75.16 on 16x7's, darn them!

 

Ive run 35's many times on stock Z71 wheels which are 7-7.5" wide w/no probs. Ran the same setup on 3 diff. trucks and never had any issues whatsoever. you wouldnt have a problem with 33x12.50's on your stock wheels, here in SC most of the trucks run huge tires and stock wheels. i personally like that look and currently have a 2005 F250 4x4 with 2.5" lift 37" tires on stockers- looks great
