What to pay for 1988 v6 4runner ? pictures Thanks

I want to buy another early model 4runner and recently looked at one I can get for $3800 plus tax.
1988 v6(new head gasket) auto sr5 sunroof 130K miles. It looks pretty good not much paint fade so it was probably garaged. Interior looks good for the age. It has some rust starting in the left rear fender and a dent in the right rear corner under the taillight. The frame looks great and there is little oil leaking like is usually seen on these trucks.

I had an '87 same color 22re 5spd about 10 years ago I put 100K miles on. I really like these trucks and finally can get another.

Is it worth the $3800 or should I keep looking? My feeling is that I would rather have the early style 4runner and I'd rather have a v6 over the 22re because I do pull a small trailer on occasion. They are somewhat difficult to find and my time is worth something.

dude i have the same situation....its not that bad and for that price i would jump on it. The body and paint look great besides the stuff u showed in the pics. only 130k miles is great too, the engine is just getting broken in. If it were my choice i would get it.

EDIT:I think my parents around 3500 for mine.

Auto is best for me because my wife doesn't know how to drive a manual transmission. I figure the 3.0l auto is going to have more power than a 22re auto.

I talked him down $200. That is all he is willing to move. I'd like a lower price, but I'd like something fairly soon and am not willing to travel all over the country checking out ebay cars which may or may not be as advertised. I also do not have any family friends who have 4runners they are selling cheap.

plus
little rust and body damage
nice no clear coat peeling original paint
new tires
new shocks
new brakes
nice interior
sunroof
v6
auto
no leaks that I could see
a/c works good
drives well

Maybe I'll hold off another week and see if something else comes up but I really don't see them up for sale all that often.

I suppose there could be more rust but it would require me to pull up the carpet and pull the fender trim. I crawled under the truck with a flashlight and the frame looks great. No rust around doors or door frames or tailgate.

I can't stand rust. Rust free 4runner's are still out there. Yeah, you might have some engine issues like I have, but rust only gets worse..........you can't stop it.

Are you going to have to make payments on it, or are you going to be able to give him the full amount right away? If you have to do the former, you are going to be paying quite a bit more then $3800. Though it is a nice vehicle, I would look elsewhere, personally, just because I would rather have a 22RE.

It'll be cash. The only mods I plan on making are maybe some new springs for the rear, a locker for the rear and maybe a vinyl kayline cover.

current vehicles I own:
2005 avalon
2003 corolla
2002 excursion 4x4
1991 turbo mustang
24' enclosed trailer

Rust sucks. Look for a southern vehicle that hasn't been dragged thru the salt.

The vehicle is rust free except for the little spot on the rear fender and where the dent is under the taillight. The frame is rust free. It is a southern owned vehicle.

I hope you don't mind me saying but it kind of sounds like you have made up your mind.. Around my area in the Mtns of NC that would easily get what he's asking.. I'd push for 3500 if it were me. I have a 91 DLX Pickup that I just painted and mine to had a rust spot but at the bottom of the Pass. door corner, and also had to replace the tailgate due to rust, (Mine is a southern truck too) so a rust spot on that age is NOT uncommon, just fix it ASAP to avoid a big body work bill in the future. It looks like a well maintained 4Runner.. What it all comes down to is are YOU happy with it for the price you would pay.. if YES :bigclap: .. DON'T WAIT! it might get sold while your pondering it.. if NO .. then just forget about it and keep lookin bud..

I am pretty much decided I just need a couple of people to make valid points against the truck. I wish I would have taken pics of the undercarriage and frame because I haven't seen many around here for this price in this good of condition.

I had a $1200 FJ60 lined up to buy last Saturday. The guy said he couldn't meet me until Sunday at 2:00 because of work. My wife and I were driving to pick up the landcruiser about 15 minutes to 2:00 and he called me to let me know he sold it.

Do it, fix the rust, you have plenty of vehicles to replace it if you have issues w/ it, and dont ever try to make a small mod list, its not possible.
