if you want to fit in, get about 9" of lift, 33x12.5s and 15x14 rims

AT's. The MT's dig into the sand (in my experience in the Dunes of Michigan).

Ditto... Those guys in hawaii have insane trucks that just look rediculious... but 9" of lift is a little mild for hawaii, you should look into getting AT LEAST 24".

I'd say AT tires, they work well in the sand with low pressure, and are fairly capable when you hit some mud.

i may not even lift my truck...who knows! i love the capabilities of it being stock and consider myself being fortunate of not being stuck but one good time. and that drew the line cause it was some nasty nasty mud at the cliffs insane terrain!
gotta get new tires!

AT's. You need something to last a while to help you cope with gas prices.

i say go for the muds. you can always air way down for the sand and the muds will perform just fine.

mud terrains. They're great compromise tires. They don't make annoying WAHHHH sounds on the road, they pull fine in the mud, and they've kept me planted on the back side of saddle road doing 80. They've pulled my little toyota through some deep, frame-grabbing clay mud too.

I'm assuming you're moving to Oʻahu. Not a whole lot of beach riding on Oʻahu, 'cause first, it's illegal. Second, they paved parking lots up to the hightide mark anyway (slight exaggeration), so it's pointless. Not to mention you might be pissing off some wealthy foreign homeowner who's under the mistaken impression that he owns the beach (it happens). Windward side has a lot of wheeling though -- the kind you're going to want those MT's for. I've never owned the BFG AT's, but I had some Pro Comp AT's and they were horrible in the Hilo rain. They were horrible in mud as well. In fact the only place they excelled was out on the pāhoehoe. BFG MT's handle it all with ease.

BFG AT; cheaper, better in sand, great overall, easier to source, better MPG, less noise, longer life, beter handling and will seem a billion times better than your current tires.

If after they wear out you think your limiting factor off road is the tires, go for the muds. I doubt that will be the case though.
