Engine light coming on, then off, then on again...

Hey fellow yotatechers, my fathers 2000 4runner 3.4L had it's engine light on a week ago, but i've pulled the negative terminal to make it go away. The day after it came on, i cleaned the MAF sensor, cleaned the TB, and replaced the spark plugs with Iridiums. The light came on for a moment after doing the cleaning, but then disappeared after driving for a few minutes. A week later, (which is now today) the light came back on, i'm not sure if i cleaned the sensor right, (just spraying contact cleaner on the red bulb thingy), maybe it's the O2 sensor, becuase gas mileage decreased alittle and the truck has well over 136 K KM on it. Help is appreciated.

Key thing you should take from that article Godzilla posted is to NOT stick the plastic tube that comes with the can down the MAF. It's good to fill up the MAF with cleaner and then shake it out good to remove any larger bits that are lodged down there.

When I cleaned the MAF sensor, i didn't remove the sensor itself, I just sprayed the contact cleaner on the red bulb thingy like i mentioned earlier. I didn't want to take it out in the first place, this is because i was worried about stripping the head off the screws holding the sensor in. I didn't know about those wires i was supposed to clean, myyyyyyy badddddddd. I'll do it later today, thanks people.
