IFS rear axle for 82

Hey guys, new to site. Can I swap my 10" drums onto the 86^ rear axle. Want to redo the rear suspension, but wait for the full floater/disc brakes til funds available. Are the backing plates the same? What about the spring perches? Any info is appreciated.

Perches are the same.

Why save the drums?

If you are buying a new housing and new shafts, the seller ought to throw in the backing plates for free.

Your pre-IFS ones will not work on the IFS rear. The drums are smaller, the pattern on the axle end is different and the holes in the backing plates are different as well.

Thanks for the reply. I got the rear end for free, complete, so you can't beat that. I'm going to run the drums for a while, the 11" ones are supposedly an upgrade. I was looking at them today and I'd have to remove the bearing to get the backing plate off. This seems like a pain just to save fifty bucks redoing the better drum brakes. My shorter housing is stuffing my 36's into the frame now, so I'm hoping the longer housing will solve the problem. If not, a longer bump wil work. Thanks for the help.
