Angry 1986 Hilux Surf running rough when warm

Hi all, newbie here from New Zealand. My Hilux is a 1986 2.0L Petrol EFI.

I have just had it in at the mechanics to have it tuned etc and while there they replaced the distibutor cap as it had a crack in it.

2 weeks later the problem I am having is that the vehicle runs fine when cold, but after about 10 minutes of road driving it runs noticeably rougher. It loses a bit of it's acceleration and almost seems as if it is going to miss. When accelerating it just feels very 'sputtery' particularly in 2nd and 3rd gear.

Again, like I said, when it is cold it seems fine.

I would welcome any suggestions or comments.

Cheers

Could be the coil.
They will work fine cold, then after 5 to 10 minutes they start to warm up and start to miss. If you have a timing light, you could hook it to the coil wire instead of the number 1 wire. Of course wait till its hot and missing, hold the trigger for at least 30 sec's or more waiting for a missing flash of the light.

You may also want to pull the cap off the dist-shaft and try to wiggle it. I'm thinking maybe the shaft is moving, so the rotor is not always close enough for the spark to jump making the miss. A loose dist-shaft would also explain what cracked the cap.

Cheers Mate I will give that a try. Also thought maybe the leads to the plugs might be cracked and when they heat the cracks open up? Dont know but I had that problem with my leads on a honda civic years ago with similar symptoms. Aah the joy of problem solving :-)
