first its easist if all your files are in one folder. then goto edit > Prefs > advanced then change the "iTunes Music Folder Location" to where ever you have your music stored. then check the "Keep iTunes music folder organized". now comes the bitch part. all the ID3 tags have to be correct. so goto the Libaray and right chick > Get Info for every mp3 that has a blank artist column. once you get it organized it works wonderful. iTunes will guess the info based on previous entries so it will go pretty fast.

alright... thats what I was hoping to avoid... pretty much none of my ID3 tags match my file names. That is going to be a royal PITA. I've got like 900 songs to go through now... Yippe-ki-friken-yay

Now I've already started naming like 20 of them, is there anyway to get the songs listed first by artist and then alphabetically? Because right now I have them listed by artist but they seem to be in a very random order besides being grouped by artist.

ya it sucks. i had over 1200 when i did it to mine. i dont know of a way to do a double sort like your asking about. if you have a lot of songs by the same artist you can hold shift or control and highlight them all and then get info on all and change them at once.
