Satellite radio owners

This is $80 at Best Buy. I want to get it, but they didn't tell me if it comes with everything I need to hook it up and use it. Is it a complete kit?

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1124432561952

Are there any features of sat radio that I would want to look in to?
What are some features you would want in your satellite?
This is the first time I am really looking to buy, and I never did any reseach on it yet, so I figure someone with first hand knowledge can help point me in the right direction.

Thanks, and HAPPY NEW YEAR to all.

I just got one (STARMATE - replay) from Radioshack. I think they have the best set up so far... this is what I got from them.

139.00 with a mail in 50.00 rebate (total price 79.99)
Comes with:
Everything you had listed from Best Buy, PLUS the HOME KIT.

I have mine hooked up right now and love it so far !!!

Hope this helps... but hurry if you decide to go with radioshacks package, the rebate expires January 31st. I think Radioshack should still have this deal available.

Does it lack any cool features that others may have?
I know some offer things other brands/models don't, but I am clueless to this stuff and since it's so cheap compared to others, I may just pick one up and play around.

I am a newbee too...so I probally wouldnt be the best person to give opinions on options , etc...
One thing I will say is, I am totally happy with the STARMATE-Replay. Its pretty easy to use.

Sirius is also selling a SIRIUS radio with IPOD features built in, which is pretty cool.... I would imagine the more this product takes off, the more cool radios they will be coming out with this year...FYI- my Home play kit is on backorder from Radioshack...apparently they have sold out with their current sale so some of our local stores are backordered. I couldnt find a complete kit in a Radioshack in the Baltimore area. Crazy.

FYI- I am listening to my SIRIUS right now on my computer..they give you a log in name and you can listen to their entire channel set up on the internet. Pretty cool.

BTW- I just checked out the Magical Trevor link...pretty funny.

Oh forgot to add, if you are a big sports fan, then perhaps the SPORTSTER radio would be good for you..its alittle larger than the STARMATE, but it gives real time scores on the display for NFL games.

Cheers.

i got mine at best buy, it was $17.00 on sale, the roady2. It is kind of older, but i figured for 17 dollars could i go wrong? kit includes everything to use in you car including mounting hardware cd adapter antenna, different color plates for the unit, also the unit backlighting can change to 7 different colors, and includes pretty much the same features that starmate has it just does not look nearly as cool and does not record music but that would be really sweet. Every day i find a cool new feature and i am still amazed it was only 17.00 actually only 2.00 because i used a 15.00 gift certificate. Oh and monthly subscription is 7.00 because my dad already had a plan and activation was free.

I have XM Sat radio, just got it an love it. Sat radio is ismply outstanding. In terms of that unit I like the local weather/traffic option. I don't think Xm has that. But in terms of options XM still does have an awful lot.

I just the the Skyfi2 link Its an awesome little unit I'm still debating on weather to get the Xm to go as well or an ipod for carrying my personal music stuff instead of CD's. Its a tought choice. My skyfi two has several neat options like the sports ticker, usable for looking at sports scores, Nascar running order, stocks..etc.. Something about a 30 minute repeat, something about starting the song over. I haven't quite figured out all the options yet to be honest as I just got it for Xmas.

There are lots of options out there. Choose wisely.

xm also has local weather and trafic, but not for every town and city so you might want to take a look first, xm also has sports and stock tickers.

Just went to Radio Shack, and they are out of stock and they said most people were buying it for Howard Stern.
Online it's out of stock as well.
They said there are going to be sales on it mid January again.

Can you switch it from car to car with ease? Can I put take it out of my truck when I get to work and use it in the work trucks?

Yes you can switch from car to car... I originally had my antenna resting on my dash and picked up rather well. The unit itself (from SIRIUS) comes with a car kit that includes the antenna, power cord, and the radio itself.

The only mess you would have is the wiring hanging around unless you bundled it all up. I have two autos and finally mounted the radio in my Ford so all the wires are hidden, etc. I am going to buy a car kit when they become available in January and wire it in all nice and neat into my 4runner...then all I have to do is switch the head unit which would be a piece of cake if I want to switch cars.
Did I mention that listening to SIRIUS on the internet is a bonus too

So I would need to take out just the antenna and the unit itself and bring it into the other cars/trucks?
How does it pick up the signal to be played through the speakers?

I never really wanted one, but I have been listening to Sirius on the TV at my girls house, and they play a lot of stuff I like, and when I listened to it over good speakers (not TV) is sounded so crystal clear. I fell for the demo, now I want it.

I just remembered that radios come with XM or Sirius, and I checked the website for Eclipse, and one of the models (AVN5435) I am looking into has the Sirius option. Maybe I'm better off waiting.

Yes, all you need to do is unplug the cigarette lighter plug and move it to your other car along with the magnetic antenna (which will work rather well on the dash for temporary installs).
The SIRIUS radio transmitts to the FM radio on any channel you pick. SIRIUS.com should have all of the info you need.

If you to ever decide to go XM, Mounting the Antenna on the dash isn't a good idea. You get mutes and dead spots very easily.

They tell you this on a piece in the package, that if you have had it installed on the inside of the car that you have to have it moved to the outside or you will expierence these issues.

I just got the SIRIUS sportster for $100 (including $50 rebate). Love it! Sirius has 130 channels compared to XM which has 150. Sirius has everything u need I'm sure. The only thing that sux with satellite is the reception. The second I go under an underpass or in a toll plaza, etc., I lose reception. But to me, its still worth it. Nothings on the radio these days and theres so much to chose from depending on your mood that day. I got the home docking station too. $50, awesome.

What sux about getting a radio that is satellite ready is you still need to buy the $100 box. Although the sound is more crisp than hooking up a panel to your existing radio. I would go the cheaper route. This way you can transport it to the house or in a boombox. The sportster is the best.

Good luck in your decision!

Gooood point. I didn't think of that. Totally flew over my head.
I may really have to get the unit after hearing what replaced Howard Stern.

As far as the sports, I can care less. I do not like mainstream sports. I'm more of the X Games type.

(Someone just said Howard Stern on air and they were just caught so off guard, it's so bad )

Couldn't agree more with the Howard replacements, here it's "The junkies". January 9th can't come soon enough.

I bought the Sirius One (Radio Shack for $29 after rebate) and hard wired the power to the map lights in my 99. Without going into too much detail, I have about 8" of both the antenna wire and the power wire coming out of the console, their twisted nicely, and it makes for a very clean install. Since it broadcasts to FM, I'll get an AC/DC adapter and another antenna and just unplug the two plugs in the truck and bring it inside and place it next to my $15 alarm clock which will be tuned into the Sirius radio. That way, when the alarm clock turns on in the morning, it'll be Howard... just like old times.

I have yet to install my antenna on my roof, as it is cold and rainy and i plan to take the top off the runner to do so. in the mean time the antenna is just sittin on the dash and i have never had it cut out once, even when i go under an over pass. I don't get it, but i am not complaining and i still plan to mount it on the roof.
