How much to replace/rebuild auto tranny?
So I'm going to flush the tranny with amsoil. The thing is that I have no idea when or if it's ever been flushed and I have 170k miles on it. I know, I know, I haven't been keeping up with the maintenance. So after reading Gadgets page I've become worried about the tranny going out after the flush. The fluid doesn't smell burnt and it shifts fine, no slipping (that I can tell).
So just in case it does go out:
1. how much can I expect to pay to have it rebuilt or replaced?
2. Which route should I go, rebuild or replace.
3. Anybody know a good tranny shop in the east bay of SF?
Steve

for my '85 auto, i got quoted about $1g, almost half for labor. good deal, bad deal, i dunno. i was playing with the idea of replacement w/rebuild of engine...but i was like hhhell no. the tranny has 264k on it, and as a 3rd owner w/no paperwork, am clueless on the history of it. it shift great tho, so lets pray toyota knows what they were doing when they made the trannys...oh and i was told it would be around the same if not a little more for rebuild...the guy said dont even f with it...just get another one.
