Ghetto Azz Install Thread V2.0!!
hahahahaha it's baaaaaack.
At work its slow and I get a call asking if I can work on their car after their botched attempt. I say sure...little did i know what I was getting into...again. LOL
Here are some pics I took before touching the car (Eagle Talon) hehe:
Who need fuse holders and fuses when you have electrical tape? (Pay special attention to the ground wire going to the B+ on the battery...lol)

Ok now lets take a look at the amp "install." Note that the ground wire is also red! LOL Note how the ground is grounded to a shock tower withOUT the paint sanded away underneath! Also note where the center console would be - yes their whole dash paneling was MISSING!

Ok now that we've seen the wonderful amplifier install lets go take a look at why the Jensen amp is alway on no matter what...hehehe Battery killer anyone? (For those that might not know, yes that is the remote turn on wire going into the Alpine's yellow, constant 12v line.)

Ok after 2 hours of recifying the whole damn install here is what the amp looked like - no wires exposed at all. I would have assembled the dash for them, had they actually brought the parts, but what can ya do? I also hooked up the LED's on the box so that they'd illuminate when the amp turned on. Surprisingly the setup sounded relatively GOOD after I tuned the amp and alpine head unit! (Much to my complete surprise)

Ports actually to a 4th order bandpass by Jensen being powered off of that Jensen amp... Much to my surprise is had some output and sounded relatively good for what it was. However it is the best sounding prefab bandpass I've heard yet...lol

circuit city...hehehe I periodically bring the termlab meter out too to deflate some egos and certify that claims are bs too...hehehe
Like the guy with 3kW rms on his walled soloX claiming a 156 and change legal...turns out he was really at a 144.9! LOL
I know I shouldn't beat up the newbies, but damn it, I cant help it sometimes!

We are stunned by their incompetence.
I help so many people clean up their poor wiring, it is not that hard if you take your time and pay attention to what you are doing. But hey...I can use the money on the side.

Dude just a quick question and for all the other dudes who may know. I am putting in a bigger amp into my truck and for some reason the wiring isn't firing up the amp. I did a direct hook up to the battery and the amp powered on just fine. When I took the old amp out it was working ( 0r so I thought). I did just put in a new Pioneer headunit. Do you recommend a complete new amp wiring kit or what. The current amp kit is less than a year old.
I can't figure it out. I took the ground out and replaced it. Any ideas anyone??
Thanks!

First make sure your ground is indeed grounded with the paint sanded away from underneath. Next check that the B+ wire is securely anchored to the positive terminal of the battery. Then check the fuse or just replace it. (Seen some bad ones that looked ok) Then check to make sure that the remote turn on wire is hooked up to the deck's blue/white wire. Check all connections for security. Check the resistance of the speakers as well. Also check that RCAs are plugged into the correct RCA jacks on both the amp and the head unit.
Attempt to power up amp. If it fails to power up, get out the DMM and check to see that it's getting 12v at the amp on both the power line and the remote. If not figure out why. Usually the culprit will be a bad grounding location, minimal wire connection at the fuse holder, or a burnt out remote turn on coming out of the deck....
if it powers up and you are getting no output or minimal output check your crossover settings as well as the deck's settings. If that doesnt rectify the problem, check subwoofer phasing - if one sub is out of phase from the other you will get almost no output and a lot of 'whooshing' sounds.
that about covers it I think...
ooh yeah and check to make sure that the fuses on the side of hte amp arent blown. Also check to make sure you didnt reverse the ground and b+ when you hooked up the amp.
