Pink grease in brake caliper rebuild kit...what's it for??
Hi,
I'm rebuilding the front brake calipers on my 96 T100 4x4. I bought the kit from the dealership, and it comes with all the seals and wipers and clip rings. But it also includes a tiny ziplock bag with some pink grease or goo or something. Where do I use this stuff? I searched the forums, and it appears to me that the pistons and seals and everything use brake fluid for lubrication.
Also, the kit came with 4 brass washers. Not sure where to use those. I clamped the rubber hose with a vise-grip, and disconnected the fitting where the small metal pipe enters the caliper in order to remove the caliper. Was this right? Should i have disconnected the line where the rubber hose meets the thin metal pipe?
Thanks for any help you can give. I'm not quite in my element.
Tomas

it's lithium soap base glycol grease. you should apply it to the piston seal, piston, and boot.
also, check your brake line after you reassemble everything (and keep an eye on it for awhile) to make sure the vice grips did not tear the hose...

(just wrap the hose a few times before clamping)
