Ok, so I went out and bought some speakers for the front doors last night. The guy sold me on some kenwood dual mags because they are small and cheap since they were demos. (200 vs 300 normally). Well anyways, I put them in and they distort too much for my loud music. They said 3 day cash back, but without thinking I already threw out the rings and display panel. Anyways, anyone else have these. And what speakers could I get that would work REALLY loud and not distort much, but within the 200-300 dollar price range. I need components for the front. Also, where did you guys put the crossovers in the doors? I cant find any space, its really tight in there.

 

What are you using to power those things? If it's the stock HU then you are probably not giving them enough power, or it could be that they simply suck. Or if you are using an amp you may have the gain set too high. My crossovers are under my seats. I run Adire Kodas with an Arc Audio 4150, about 80 watts per channel, 9815 Alpine HU. For 200 dollars I think you would love some RE comps, or the 150 dollar CDT comps.

where would you put an amp though? Could you get one small enough to fit in the stock location, I really would hate to clutter under my seats, lol

 

I read on a website that the speakers have a power rating of 180 watts. whats the power rating of the stock speakers. I really want to get my truck back together, but without a huge amp that takes up half my cargo space. I shouldnt have thrown away the stock speakers until i knew everything worked ok, o well live and learn

 

If you don't already have one, look into a sub or two so you don't have to pump the bass through the lil door speakers. Get a nice 3 or 4 channel amp to run it all on.

I have the same setup with fronts a sub and an amp and for the garbage subs (old RF 15") it sounds amazing. My front stage was a little pricey though.

On another note. When I first bought the Morels, I had not decided on an amp and had them running off the HU and they sounded like crap. Power is key. They are 150 watts RMS each channel, and I had the HU powering them for a week or two.

I mounted my X-overs right above the speakers in the doors. I cut out the "indented" part of the black trim panel and screwed them down. Had to take a notch out of the door panel from behind to fit with them x-overs tilted as you can see in the second pic.
NO rattles or anything. I couldn't mount them under the seat. The rear heater fan for the rear heat is in the way on the passenger side, and anything under the drivers seat is very hard to reach.
