Unconventional Skid plate material...

Think I'll use plastic to replace the cheesy thin sheet metal on the '98 Taco. Attach it w/ C'sink screws for a totally flat skid...

first choice:

72" x 36" x 1/2 White $135.02 from:

http://acetal-rod-sheet.com/hdpe-cutting-board.htm

also available in colors for some extra $$$

a 72" piece should be enough to do the whole truck.

or

HDPE 48" x 48" 1/2" Thick Sheet $76.90 from:

Are these directly replacing the existing factory skids? Or have you already changed out the stock mounts like the transfer case cross member?

i thought of that a few months ago, and just never got around to doing anything w/ it. i think it would work good for sliding across stuff, but for inpacts, it might leave something to be desired.

btw, i've ordered stuff from USP and they ship quick and service is good!

May use the stock plate as a backer/mounting surface.

I expect the plastic to add a lot of ridigity to the sheet metal. Won't know for sure until I have the matl in hand...

definitely go w/ the black stuff. more expensive, but worth it.

if you put the HDPE on the OEM stuff, it should spread out the loads and help out a lot.
