Creating a web site
I noticed that a lot of people on Yotatech have their own websites. So I am wondering if tose of you who have one can help me. I want to make my own website but do not know how to even get started. Is there a place on the internet that helps out newbies. Thanks for any and all advice.

Google, tons of hits.
Basically you are going to need an HTML editor for WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get)
Many code with Notepad, they are pros, and have way more time than I do
I stick with an HTML editor (Microsoft Front Page) as it is as easy to use as MS Word.
You open up a new doc and start inserting your text, pics, ect.
You then save all the files for that certain page to a folder.
Note that with Front Page when you select your pics to insert, they should already be in the folder where you are going to save your HTM file, or they will not show up properly when uploading.
You should also get a FTP upload program to upload your files to your site.
Your ISP whoever that is may already have a webpage that has built in FTP where you browse your files from your PC and upload them, edit, ect.
I use a 3rd party app called Cute FTP which I really like.
There are also free ones on the 'Net.
You also may have to activate your web space account with your ISP from your account page.
I know Comcast makes you do so.
I only use my Comcast space for vids of games I am in, the rest of my stuff such as my pnw4runners.com page I pay for space on a server.
Lotta info out there.
Just practice with a few simple pages to get the hang of it.
I could go on for an hour on how to make a page, but a lot of the info is out there already.
Also if you want your own domain name, you need to pay a few bucks.
I use www.godaddy.com
You then point your name to the DNS #s of the server you are on.

Easy to do. Microsoft Front Page.
Get a host (I use www.digitalcrowd.com - same as Yotatech) and then pick a domain name and register it yourself or let the host do it. $15-25/month depending on how much you want.
Just go for it and start designing.

sure you can use microsoft front page, but if you really want to get into it and have more control over your code and page's appearance, it pays to learn HTML.
and for that i highly recommed New Perspectives on Dynamic HTML - Introductory

this book, the one from the course new perspective series, makes it really easy to learn HTML. it's the book that got me into web design and coding.
with HTML, you should be able to make most any basic site you want. beyond HTML, if you want to get more advanced, then you get into PHP, CSS, Flash, etc...

I learned how to make a fairly simple webpage myself just by googling, and within a weekend, i had one up. granted, it wasnt for my 4 runner, but, still a webpage. i did it without the help of frontpage. instead i opted for a program called cuteHTML, and then uploaded to a server with cuteFTP, the same program corey uses.
Its really alot easier than most people make it out to be, atleast, simple ones.
