pickup clutch and shifter

hey i just got a 83 yota pu a little while ago that needs a clutch, i ordered a new clutch for it but i wanted to know if anyone has any tips for putting it in?, is there any techniques to follow?, and the shifter is reaaaallly sloppy, and i wanted to know what causes this and how can i fix it, the truck only has 99,000 miles on it(and no it hasnt turned over, it is 99,000) so the tranny should be fine, the shifter is just really sloppy, thanks for any help

John, if I were changing the clutch, I'd also change the pressure plate. Get the kit and it will come with everything you need. As far as the shifter slop, that is an easy fix. Get the new shifter seat and bushing from http://www.marlincrawler.com/trans.html, scroll near the bottom and you will see them. Cost is about $16 shipped. This will make your truck shift like new. And here's a little tip on getting the pilot bushing out of the flywheel...pack the bushing hole full of wheel bearing grease, as full as you can get it. Then find yourself a bolt that is just the right size to fit in the hole (you could probably also use the clutch alignment tool they give you in the kit). Then tap the bolt firmly with a hammer to drive it into the bushing. The grease will force the pilot bushing right out of the hole. This really works and might save you some fighting and cussing later.
