Exclamation By popular demand, Colorado run

Weekends are good for me, either Saturdays or Sundays. With enough notice I can re-arrange things for another day.

We seem to all be in the front range area, Ft. Collins to CO Springs. Something doable for stockers and centrally located would be ideal. I'm thinking Slaughterhouse gulch but i'm open to any suggestions. A trail in the range of 3-5 on the 10 point difficulty scale with good scenic photo opprotunities is what I think would be best.

Gimmie some feedback!!!

I'm up for anything you all wanna do. I finally finished the last piece of my CB install on Monday. I think it's going to work great best I can tell. Looking forward to test it out on a trail run. That being the case Matt, I am now open any weekend to do a run down in your neck of the woods.

Given the weather we've had lately ice and snow aren't a real concern. There will be plenty of gravel available to throw on top if we do find ice. If you guys don't mind coming down here i'll show you around the Mt. Baldy/ Elk Park/ Reynolds Wrap/ Eagle Rock neighborhood (pg 62 in the De Lorme Atlas and Gazetteer.) Roughly 38.72* N lat. 104.95* W long. on the GPS.

If those new guys in the Denver area ever ring in it will probably move to Slaughterhouse or something North of me like say pages 38, 39 or 49. DenverBikeGuy, Mattimus, YoungFeller, Sizzletits, do you have anything to say about this?

Well, whaddya think boys? It's gettin' close to the weekend. Do we PM the newbies? Maybe they don't know about "over here" yet.

Besides, I need something else to add to my trail reports section.

That has me wondering, it would be cool if you could sort members by location and have the option to PM all the folks inter-state (or is that intra?). Gotta put Corey to work!

Hi. I'm PMing everyone I know of in the front range area to see if anyone wants to go wheeling Saturday. Darren and I want to go to Slaughterhouse but we are open to other ideas.

Who's in? PM me or e-mail jx94148@yotatech.com or reply to the thread in the Offroad and Event planning section.

Thanks, Matt
I just sent that to 9 members. Don't feel bad if you got left out. Everyone with 4 wheel drive is welcome!

I stole the following text from 4x4trails.net Its easier than trying to write my own description.

Regarding Slaughterhouse gulch...
Access: Head South from Denver on U.S. 285 (approximately 24.5 miles from where US285 crosses under C470). There is a traffic light about 0.1 mile before you Crow Hill (N 39*26.275' W105*27.445'). The intersection is a bit odd, but it should be labeled as "Deer Creek" and/or Park County Road 43. Make qty=2 right turns in rapid succession effectively doubling-back on the direction you were headed on 285 (this will place you on Park County Road 43 headed Northeast). Stay on PC43 for 6.7 miles (PC43 will cross over Deer Creek and turn to a more Northwesterly direction). Turn left onto "Saddlestring Road" (N 39*29.876' W105*31.771' - If you get to the "Y" sign you've gone about 100' too far). Saddlestring Road is an improved residential dirt road with small ditches on both sides. Stay on Saddlestring Road for 0.2 miles (crossing the creek again) as the road bends to the left look for (and turn onto) Forest Service Road 101. Run on FSR101 for2.5 miles to the steel "Slaughterhouse Gulch, Crow Gulch" sign. This is as good of a place as any to take care of air and other chores.

Matt-
I sent you an e-mail, but I figured I'd respond on the forum, too.

This is going to be a weekend of 4wheelin' for me.
Slaughterhouse on Saturday and then Argentine pass with my mother on Sunday.

I have to put my skid plate back on which means I have to try to remember where I put the bolts.
To coin a phrase from Saturday Night Live's parody on Martha Stewart, "everything is so organized, I can't find a freakin' thing"

If I can't find them tonight, I'll probably buy a set. What size does it take and how many?

Like JadeRunner, Sportrunner, Reapur, Marmot, etc.

How the heck are you going to run the highest pass in the state this time of year, or are you hiking it?

With all the warm weather recently, we're hoping there isn't that much snow. If it is snowed over, we'll probably eat lunch at the trail head, drive over Guanella Pass and then drive to Fairplay and take Boreas Pass (if it's open).

I went ahead and posted a link to this thread on Trail Talk - let's see if we can't get a few more people.

So are we meeting at the trailhead - or somewhere else?

Darren, I can look up members who have put down Colorado into their area for their profile.

I also tried doing just CO, but for some reason it also included Canada too

Here is the search with Colorado:

Here is is again with just CO.
You would have to look at the names to see which ones are in Cananda or not, but you could probably build up a PM list this way.

Cool! Thanks Corey. I'm guessing it isn't possible to incorporate a sortable field in the members area, correct? That would be the best scenario I would think if it could be done.

It would take someone with hacking skills with coding of this kind of software to do that.

It would be a cool feature, and I might be able to pass the info along too the makers of the software.

That means I have to go to sleep before 3 AM Fri night/Sat morning.

No problem, sounds good. I'll be there. Um, Scott just mentioned on 4x4 Wire about some icy hill on that trail.

Hills, ice and Toyotas don't make a great combo. We'll see when we get there I guess.

There will probably be some exposed gravel that we can throw on top of any ice if it looks dangerous.

Weather forcast is partly cloudy with a high of around 50* but a flake or two may be possible.

You've got a TJM - just make sure you slide into a tree with that and not something else!

Didn't Maximus say he did slaughterhouse last weekend without problems?
