'90 4Runner Fuel Line Removal & Replacement

Guys,
I had a fuel leak from my fuel line just over the fuel tank. The line rusted and started leaking. I was able to find replacement fuel lines (2) from Toyota (OEM parts).

I had to pull the fuel tank and am planning on replacing both segements of metal fuel line #1 (fuel tank to fuel filter), and #2 (fuel filter to fuel rail).

In order to route the tank to fuel filter metal line, I had to pull the emergency brake cable assembly to give me enough room and twist the line during removal and installation.

* Has this happened to you?

* Does anyone have any tips/advice on replacement of the metal line Forward of the Fuel filter?

* Does anyone have any tips/advice on replacement of the metal line AFT of the fuel filter (Tank to Fuel filter segement)?

part numbers

Hey, sorry to hijack, but can you post the part numbers for the fuel lines. I broke mine trying to replace the fuel filter and am just starting to research the process.

Thanks,

John

I recommend OEM metal lines

I had a leak over the gas tank as well. I ended up getting both sections of the metal fuel line from the dealer (although only the rear section over the tank was fully rusted). They had it pre-bent (although it was hard to get the old pipe off and new on). You can view my Post on this as well.

The cost was around $22 bucks for each section. The time consuming part is pulling the gas tank and moving stuff to get the pipe out. In addition, the fitting to my flexline going to the Fuel Pump also had to be replaced.

I have bent my own pipe (when I could not find the prebent in stock) however, it is much faster to get it pre-fab. Also, my line on my 90 4Rnnr was 8mm, which is close, but not exactly 5/16th (7.9mm) O.D. If you fab your own you will have to get the metric ends to match as well. And I never did locate a place to get 8mm OD metal line in US...

FYI.

got any tips for getting the fuel line from under the cab into the engine compartment, I had to bend the crap out of the old lines to get them out, I don't see how i'm gonna get the new one in place.

I'm replacing both fuel and brake lines as both were completely rusted through...

Talking quick fix

Thanks for the part numbers, they may come in handy. I know this won't help a problem at the tank end of the system, but as a quick fix, I bought some 8.0 mm fuel line, an aftermarket fuel filter and hose clamps made for fuel injection systems. Cut the fuel line with a pipe cutter and re-routed the whole assembly over the old fuel filter (zip ties are your friend). Now before everyone starts flaming me because of how stupid I am, relax. There are a lot of vehicles that use rubber fuel lines into and out of the filter for fuel injection and I talked to several mechanics, our systems run at relatively low pressures (<35 psi) and most rubber fuel line is rated to 3x that. My Yota has 250,000 miles on her is only used around town and is slowly being consumed by midwest cancer, so it's really just a game to see how long she will go without any major repairs. No leaks in 3 days and if it doesn't work, I'll just do it right. Everyone have a good Memorial weekend

My 4Runner wasn't bad for Eng to filter line section...

Metal Wulf

I have a 4Runner, the fuel filter to Engine Bay line was not a big deal for my specific truck. I did have to unbolt several items on the RH side of the frame to get the fuel line out. My biggest problem was the rear section of pipe (fuel filter to tank). I'm not sure how much differen't your truck is compaired to my 4runner.

Good Luck!
