I usually don't go more than about 60 after it comes on and that's pushing it. once I went a little further and the engine was sputtering as I pulled into the gas station. Not something I would recommend but sometimes you just don't feel like pulling over when you're making great time. The think I usually have a problem with is needing to pee and deciding to wait another exit and then I get stuck in a bumper-to-bumper jam and it takes another hour by which time I am about climb into the back and start filling empty coke bottles.

My rule of thumb is never go more than 30 miles after the light comes on solid.
I have gone as much as 40 but nothing like Keisur (where my engine was sputtering).

I have to go up and down a very steep grade to get to my house so when the light comes on I have to go get gas or it will run out on the hills. On flat ground I have gone 25miles.

I've gone about 45-50 miles on the light. That stupid light seems to be on every day.

I usually go about 30-40 miles. I've only had the engine sputtering problem while rolling into the gas station once and once was enough for me. Keisur, why don't you just pull over and run in the woods? I do it all the time. Is that illegal?

When I first bought my 3rd gen, I was interested to see how far I could go after the fuel light came on. I pushed it a little further time after time until I thought I couldn't go any further without running dry. I've gone as far as allowing the fuel gauge to drop below the empty line and drive another 30 miles or so. After filling the tank, I found I still had about three quarters of a gallon left. My gauge may be off, but seems Toyota doesn't want you run out of gas with a fuel injected engine.

Its a fuel gauge tsb. Its really retarded. I usually fill up around 260-270miles. That with a solid light and the needle under the E.

Yep... thats the reason why fuel pumps and filters go bad. You get the crap on the bottom of the tank, not to mention the water that has condensated inside the tank.

I regularly go about 40miles after the light comes on. It usually comes on at 260 miles, and I try to get to 300 before filling up and I usually I can only fill 16-17gallons in(though last time I had less than a gallon left!)

I try not to go more that 30 miles after the light comes on. However, once I had to push it to 60 miles. That was scary.

wow, I guess my miles per tank isn't as bad as I thought it was.
I usually fill up once my odometer reads 220 miles, and that's when the needle is on E but the light isn't on.
I guess I could push it to 240-250
