Question Valve body upgrade

I'm looking into doing the valve body upgrade on my 99 4runner with a S/C.

1st question: Of those of you who have done this upgrade, did you notice any problems with the upgrade?

2nd question: Is the shifting really hard after the upgrade (will this cause slippage on slick surfaces while accelerating-like going uphill on snow, etc...)?

3rd question: Is there any tranny shop in the Denver area that does these upgrades (I'd rather not have to send my valve body out)?

Thanks everybody.

I, too, have a '99 with SC, and had John at IPT do the mod. Great guy, couldn't be happier with the service.

As for the shift firmness, well ... that's why my ride's called "Lurch." My spousal unit dubbed him that immediately after the mod, because the shift from 1st to 2nd was pretty jolting. Never lost traction (unintentionally) during the shift -- just don't stomp on it while on a slippery surface. You probably wouldn't do that anyway, would you?

Don't know of anyone out west who does the mod. I'd contact John at IPT and see what advice he has for you.

Hope that helps,

Don

When you talk to John, he'll fill you in on the options... He can setup the shift to be anything from Gramma to Neck Breaking.

The choice should be based on what you want to do with the truck... If you're looking to be out at the drag strip a lot, then go Neck Breaker. If you spend a lot of time on the highway, but want to impress the ricer you're about to blow the doors off of, then head for something a bit softer, but not all the way down to Gramma.

For reference, John is the owner of IPT is here on the forum as TransDude, and on the web here. A real nice guy...

If I recall correctly, Haveblue had his valve body upgraded by a company in CO. PM him.
