Trottle Body cleaning (spray)

I searched on this topic and found lots of posts, but couldn't find the answer I was looking for.
I've used the spray stuff to clean throttle body in my old car. It was very easy. Can I use the same approach on the 02 4Runner? Unscrew one bolt (red arrow). Pull the hose off and just spray into throttle body (blue arrow) while reving the engine up?
Will the engine start with air hose off the throttle body, or should I pull the hose off while engine is on?
TIA

heheh.. found GREAT article just down the page on how to clean the entire thing (intake AND TB).
Now my question is.. how often should I do this? I've got 3k miles on my truck (just did 1st oil change). I don't have aftermarket filter or a hole in my air box (I'm happy with performance as is).
TIA

You must have found the link to Ryan's page on how to clean it?

Not sure on how often you should do this, but glad you found the link.

Damn, you already found the write-up I was going to send you too.

I'd say cleaning it once a year or so is more than enough. Don't forget that the majority of the public doesn't even know they have a MAF, or even what a throttle body is, and they have vehicles that run for hundreds of thousands of miles. So cleaning it at all, anytime, is cool. I know someone that barely knows they have tires, but their vehicle has gone over 250,000 miles.

I'm not sure, but maybe Jay can answer this as a side-note/question. Does the dealership ever clean the MAF or throttle body as part of scheduled maintenance? I've never heard of them doing it on a schedule but I could be wrong (which is why I'm asking heh)

Nope, no schedule for cleaning the T/B. Its an item we sell when the "sticking" gas pedal is noted.

We dont clean the MAF at all. Replacement only as far as I have seen.
