E-Locker for 2nd Gen

Ok. I've been doing a search on used E-lockers in my area and need to know a few things to find the right axle...

- What years offered them on the 3rd gens?

- Were 4.56, 4.10 and 3.91 the only stock gear ratios available in the diffs?

- Is there any difference between the 4 cyl and 6cyl axles other than the gear ratios potentially?

- Has anyone done this swap into the 2nd gens? I hear the wiring can be tricky?

Thanks,

Warren

There's also a 4.30 ratio which is the one I have.

4 cyl and 6 cyl housings are a little different. On a 4 cyl you have to bash the heck out of the back wall of the housing to make room for the wider stuff in the 6 cyl carrier. The write up indicated mentions it I think.

The models it came on are Limited 4Runners (not SR5s) from 96 to 2001 and TRD Tacomas from '96 to present. The big tipoff that a potential donor has the e-locker is the rectangular RR DIFF LOCK button on the left side of the dashboard.

E-lockers were available on ALL 4Runner trims (Base, SR5, Limited) from 1996-2000. They were not standard with any trim, but were an available option on every trim. They did come "standard" with certain "Extra Value Packages", but there is no way of knowing this after the point of sale, unless the owner still has the window sticker. What I'm trying to say is don't limit your search just to Limited models.

Yep. Thanks. I'll just look for the dashboard switch.
