Tran temp sensor

ok this weekend i will be replacing my throw out bearing and pilot bearing on my 2wd 91 pickup. I was wondering while its out i should put a temp sendor in it since i dont have 1 and wire up a meter later. where should i put it in at and what brand of sensor?

I'd tell you to go AutoMeter, but I am having issues with the one I just had installed. That being said there are others here who have had great experiences with their stuff.

I understand that the BEST place to mount the sensor is in the line coming out of the pan going toward the cooler, and the closer to the pan the better. That is where I put mine . . . hopefully I'll get her figured out.

I believe desert womper is talking about a standard trans, and they don't usually have cooling lines. As for the temp sensor install, I suppose it could be done, by why? Standard transmissions don't usually generate any significant heat during operation, like autos do.
